MILLTOWN – While most of us have been enjoying temperatures in the 40s and even the low 50s, the warmer weather has resulted in the untimely end of Milltown’s Jeffrey the Snowman.

Crews with Carlson Construction worked hard on Wednesday, Feb. 26 and Thursday, Feb. 27, removing the gigantic hat, buttons, and other items from the snowman. Owner Craig Carlson said, “We just can’t compete with the warmer temperatures that came earlier this week and appear to be sticking around. Earlier this week the nose fell out and one of the arms is becoming unstable. So, we decided to end Jeffrey’s run for the season earlier than expected.”

Jeffrey got a late start to the year too, with crews not able to construct the annual Milltown landmark until mid-January, and that was from collecting snow from several area parking lots. Last year was not kind either, with Carlson having to resort to building a fake snowman for the first time.

Jeffrey got its start in 2019, and several years of heavy snowpack – in 2020, 2021, and 2022 – meant Jeffrey stuck around for several months, becoming a local favorite. Visitors from as far away as Ohio and South Dakota signed the Carlson’s guestbook this year.

Carlson says, “We hope to be back when snowfall allows late this year, or early next year. We have some different ideas for 2025-26, so stick around and see what will be new.” Jeffrey is also serving as a fundraiser a local scholarship; however, Carlson admits donations were “way down” this year because of Jeffrey’s shorter than expected run.
