William Adolf Gustav Schmidt passed away on Nov. 16, 2023, at Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Cumberland, Wisconsin. He was 93 years old.
William “Bill” was born on Jan. 4, 1930, the first of seven children born to Oscar and Ella Schmidt of Indian Creek, Wisconsin. He grew up with his brothers and sister on their dairy farm. He attended Maple Valley School and then Frederic High School where he played football. He graduated in 1948. He served in the Army during the Korean War spending time in Germany and France.
He married Marilyn Hefty. They were blessed with seven children who grew up on their farm in Clam Falls. While farming, Bill also worked for Penta Wood Products for more than 35 years.
He coached 4-H softball for many years, bringing home many championships.
Bill loved his family, baseball, softball, deer hunting season, guns and beer. Over the course of his life, he only missed one deer hunting season ever and that was while he was in the service.
