POLK COUNTY – In all likelihood, you have probably heard, or perhaps even experienced firsthand, some of the problems caused by worker shortages within the United States Postal Service. A number of local post offices have had to reduce hours to one extent or another, and mail has been taking longer to reach many people’s homes or offices. To help attract potential new employees, the Postal Service has been hosting job fairs across Wisconsin. Last week, on Tuesday, Feb. 7, a number of job fairs were held across Polk County, including in Balsam Lake, Amery, Clear Lake and Turtle Lake.
We spoke with Bryan Reeves, who serves as a media contact for the U.S. Postal Service.
He says, “The United States Postal Service continues hiring efforts as it looks for committed and motivated individuals to join us in our mission of service to local communities and the nation. We have, for over 245 years, delivered information, connected families and friends, and powered the engines of commerce and industry.”
Starting salary ranges from $18.92 to $19.62 per hour, based on job position.
Reeves added, “As part of our innovative and bold 10-year plan, Delivering for America, the Postal Service is focused on building a more stable and empowered workforce. Our employees are our greatest asset, and we are investing in our new employees by providing robust training and on-the-job support. The Postal Service offers competitive wages and benefits and career-advancement opportunities. Accepting a position with the United States Postal Service is the first step to starting a long, fulfilling career with a dynamic, forward-thinking organization committed to delivering for the American people. Whether you are seeking a seasonal, part-time or a full-time opportunity, we want you to be a part of our proud tradition of service!”
Positions remain open in Polk County for assistant rural carrier, rural carrier associate, city carrier assistants, and postal support employees.
