LUBBOCK, Texas – Owen Washburn, Webster, helped the Texas Tech baseball team snap a four-game skid with wins over TCU last weekend.

After being swept by Texas in a three-game series the weekend prior, the Red Raiders took an 11-10 loss to New Mexico on March 28. Washburn had a two-run home run in the first inning and finished with two hits, two runs scored and two RBI. However, New Mexico scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

Texas Tech then snapped the skid with a 20-16 win over TCU on Friday. The Horned Frogs led 16-10 heading to the bottom of the seventh before the Red Raiders posted a nine-run at-bat. Washburn had two hits, three runs scored and an RBI.

TCU responded with a 10-7 win on Saturday but Texas Tech won the series with a 10-5 decision on Sunday. Washburn had two hits and three RBI.

The Red Raiders improved to 20-9 overall on the season and host North Dakota State and former Webster teammate Hunter Rosenbaum this weekend for a three-game series.

Baseball

• Jared Lessman, St. Croix Falls, and Iowa Northern had their season-starting win streak stopped at 19 games with a 7-2 loss to Iowa Central Community College on Thursday.

But the Reivers recovered for a 7-4 win in the second game of the doubleheader with Lessman pitching more than two scoreless innings and striking out two.

Iowa Northern then split a pair of games with Ellsworth Community College on Saturday, dropping a 6-5 decision in the opener and winning the second game 13-3. The Reivers also took a 7-3 win on Sunday with Lessman throwing one scoreless inning and getting one strikeout.

The Reivers go to Iowa Lakes Community College for two games today and host Southeastern Community College for three games this weekend.

• Levi Jensen, Luck, had three RBI, including a home run, for North Alabama on Saturday but the Lions still couldn’t break their losing streak.

Jensen had a solo home run and two sacrifice flies for an RBI each for the Lions in a 12-7 loss to Stetson, which extended North Alabama’s skid to 13 games. The Lions took a 14-1 loss to Auburn on March 28 and lost Friday’s opener to Stetson 5-2.

On Sunday, the Lions took a 9-7 loss to Stetson to close the series. They go to Lipscomb for a three-game series starting Thursday.

• Nick Paulsen, Unity, and University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point split a pair of decisions over the weekend which was supposed to have four games.

Two of the Pointers’ games were postponed or canceled, but they did get a 7-1 win over Washington University (Mo.) on Saturday before taking a 10-9 loss on Sunday.

Paulsen pitched two innings in Sunday’s loss, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out one.

The Pointers are scheduled for two games in two days against UW-La Crosse, starting Friday.

Men’s golf

• Tyler Van Atta, Luck, finished the Fighting Scot Invitational 61st for Coe College at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Illinois.

The two-day tournament concluded on Sunday and Coe finished tied for sixth with a 64-over 632. Lake Forest won the event with a 32-over 600. Van Atta had a 32-over 174, shooting an 88 in the opening round and an 86 in the final round.
