Posted

SIREN - On April 4, 2023, the Siren School District reports that they will be asking voters to consider two separate referendum questions. The first question will be asking voters to increase the school operating budget by $400,000 per year for three years (2023-2026). The funding would be used similarly to the previous operating referendum which is to sustain art and music programs, in addition to maintaining school psychologist services. Also, the district would continue to progressively upgrade the school auditorium as needed. The tax impact on property with a fair market value of $100,000 would be $15 per year or $1.25 per month. Question two will authorize voters to approve the reconstruction of the elementary school playground, infrastructure and site; reconstruction of the high school track and football field and site improvements; and acquisition of related fixtures and equipment. The general obligation bonds for the project would be in an amount not to exceed $5,000,000. The tax impact on property with a fair market value of $100,000 would be $66 per year or $5.50 per month. The duration of the general obligation bond would be 20 years.
