Richard “Dick” D. Lorenson, 89, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born and grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, graduating from South High School. Dick served in the military and later worked as a police officer in the Minneapolis Police Department for 23 years. Dick was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a kind, polite man with an amazing memory, always interested in the well-being of his extended family. His love of sports began at an early age and continued throughout his life. He especially enjoyed golfing and did so into his 80s.
Dick was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Monnens, and by his parents and siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his children, Brian (Nancy), Kathy (Gregg) and Karen (Ed); along with 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; as well as Dorothy’s children, Linda (Gary), Tom (Krystyna) and Bob (Linda); and two grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by Marlys Pepera, the mother of his children.
Family, friends and others are invited to celebrate his life at Washburn McReavy Funeral Chapel in Shoreview, Minnesota, on Saturday, May 18, 2024. Visitation is at 11 a.m. with services at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to The Minneapolis Police Activities League (PAL) mpdpal@minneapolismn.gov, a nonprofit organization that provides free sports and activities to all kids.
