GRANTSBURG – A 30-year-old Grantsburg man will be sentenced later this summer after pleading guilty to three counts of second-degree Class G felony endangering safety. Joseph Michael Johnson was originally charged with that, plus two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and three other lesser property and weapons charges following an incident back on Jan. 14. However, the plea agreement allowed all charges except the second-degree endangering safety charges to be dropped.

The Burnett County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Johnson’s residence in the 20400 block of State Highway 87 in Grantsburg after receiving a report that Johnson was trying to break down a door with a golf club, threatening three people inside a bedroom. According to the original criminal complaint, obtained by the Inter-County Leader, Johnson told the responding officers that they should take him to jail or he was going to kill his roommate.

Johnson has a sentencing date of July 19.
