Mary Ellen Thompson, age 80, of Luck, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Bob and Millie Chamberlain on June 18, 1946. She graduated from West High School in Minneapolis in 1964.
Mary owned a music store and enjoyed playing the accordion at different social gatherings, often playing with a local band. Her career included many years of dedicated service at the Burnett and Polk County Government Centers in the Social Services department. Even after retirement, Mary continued to stay active, working part time at Five Flags Golf Course, in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin.
She will be remembered for her love of nature, sharing the beauty of wildlife, her pets and her gardens, with her friends and family. She especially loved laughing along with friends and family, as we tried to keep up with her on the golf course or around a pool table. A devoted Vikings fan, she never missed a chance to tease Packer fans on Tom’s side of the family.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tom Thompson; her daughter, Wendy (Ed); son, Erik (Penny); many grandchildren; two sisters, Ann (Steve) and Sue (Ron); brother, Ron (Laurie); and many friends. Her warmth, humor, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. We love you, Mary, and will miss you deeply.
