Marianne “Mickey” T.J. Schauer, age 90, of Siren, Wisconsin, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Burnett Medical Center in Grantsburg, Wisconsin. She was born on July 16, 1935, in Berlin, Germany, to Hans and Margarete Lenz.
She attended school for five years (until the end of WW2), and then finished after four years at a special school for girls. After that, she attended a business school for one-and-a-half years. When she was 18 years of age, she started to work as a secretary for an airduct (heating/cooling) company, and after that for the local city gas company.
While on vacation in Bavaria in 1957, she met Wayne Schauer who was there on Army furlough from being stationed in Berlin. They got engaged in May 1958 and then married in November 1958.
In 1959 Wayne got orders to come back to the U.S. in Fort Hood, Texas, and that’s where their son Thomas H. was born. Not long after that, in 1960, Wayne was transferred to Korea, where he had to spend a little over one year. During that time, Marianne stayed in Siren, Wisconsin, with their boy. When Wayne returned from Korea, they had to move to Utah for about five months, and then to Fort Lewis in Washington. That’s where Marianne got her American citizenship. After that, they had to travel two more times to Germany. But the last five years, Marianne stayed with Thomas in Siren, where they had purchased a permanent home, while Wayne got transferred two more times until his retirement from the Army. In the meantime, while Marianne had to raise their boy on her own, she could enjoy her love for animals, did dog sitting for people, and had to take care of Thomas’s horse. Wayne got sick in 1990 and spent six years in a nursing home before he died. Thomas got married in Texas and moved there in 1984.
Marianne was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a cousin. She is survived by her son, Thomas, and his wife, Teresa Schauer of Temple, Texas; grandchildren, Thomas Wayne, Brian Paul (wife Tiffany), and Christopher LaVerne (wife Samantha); and great-grandchildren, Brian Jr., Ariana, Allyson, Cody, Erin, Kamryn, Paislie, Nicholas, Jalin, Masin, Alexandria, and Pip.
