MILLTOWN – Snowmobilers who happened to be cruising the Gandy Dancer Trail Saturday, Feb. 11, were treated to a hot lunch by the Milltown Sno-Rovers snowmobile club. This was a first-time event by the club, serving free hot dogs, brats, chips and snacks in the warming shelter just outside of Milltown.
Melvin Smith, president of the Sno-Rovers, was very pleased with the snowmobile trails in Polk County this year. He added, “The snowmobiling was unbelievable because we got such a nice ice base early on. The clubs went out early, with permission from the DNR, and trimmed trees before the trails even opened. Polk County was the first county to open to snowmobilers this year. It’s pretty rare for Polk County to be open first, but that base it what made that happen.”
A new member to the club is credited for the idea of the meal giveaway, and it seemed to be a hit as the snowmobilers and hungry guests were soon lining up for the warm lunch.
