SUPERIOR – The Webster and Grantsburg boys track and field teams both earned four event wins in Saturday’s Lakeland Conference Indoor Meet at University of Wisconsin-Superior. But the Tigers added eight runner-up finishes to claim the team win.
Sawyer Winkler, Luke Ashworth and Dominick Ricci combined for eight first- and second-place finishes in individual events to lead Webster to 148 points; Grantsburg, 129.5, was second; and Shell Lake, 68, was third. Frederic-Luck, 46, was fifth; Unity, 23, was eighth; and Siren, 20, was ninth.
Winkler won the 55 in 6.73 seconds; Ashworth won the 55 hurdles in 8.59; and Ricci won the high jump at 6 feet, 1 inch. Winkler added runner-up finishes in the 200, 23.52, and the long jump, 19-5.5. Ricci was second in the 400, 52.95; the 55 hurdles, 8.66; and the triple jump, 39-1.75.
Webster also won the 1,600 relay with Nathan Jackson, Brandon Emerson, Talen Connor and Winkler finishing in 3:44.77. Brently Easton, Ashworth, Justin Johnson and Emerson were second in the 800, 1:40.40; while Ben Pardun, Connor, Johnson and Brock McKinley were runner-up in the 3,200 relay, 9:20.04.
The Tigers also got third-place finishes from Jackson in the 400, 56.52, and the high jump, 5-6.
Grantsburg got wins in four events, including two relays. Silas Prusinski, Ian Burkman, Aaron Burkman and Jordan Gaffney won the 800 relay in 1:37.89; and Aden Erickson, Joseph Quintana, Josh Hartke and Connor Quimby won the 3,200 relay in 9:15.06.
Quimby added a win in the 1,600 at 4:54.27; with teammate Josh Hartke, 5:19.38, in third; while Gaffney won the long jump at 19-8.5.
The Pirates had 2-3 finishes in the 55 with Gaffney, 6.85, in second, and Prusinski, 6.97, in third; and in the pole vault with Aaron Burkman, 12-6, in second, and Dominik Spohn, 11-6, in third. The 1,600-relay team of Aaron Burkman, Prusinski, Spohn and Chase Green were runner-up in 3:45.68.
Ian Burkman, 24.27, was third in the 200; Quimby, 2:14.57, was third in the 800; and Erickson, 11:06.91, was third in the 3,200.
Frederic-Luck was led by a pair of runner-up finishes from Alex Chartrand. He finished the 1,600 in 5:07.78 and the 3,200 in 11:02.49.
Derek Thiex earned a win in the shot put for Siren with a toss of 45-0; Unity’s Joe Hubbell, 41-0, Wyatt Kocurek, 40-4, and Vicente Mundo, 39-9.5, completed the top four.
