MAUSTON – Weather has allowed few Lakeland West baseball games to see a first pitch so far this season.

In fact, the Luck-Frederic and Unity baseball teams had to travel three hours just to play against each other. Both teams got the rare, early April opportunity to take the field at the Woodside Sports Complex on April 11 and the Eagles claimed a 16-3 win.

Jacob Grams led a Unity offense that posted 16 hits and scored multiple runs in each of its four at bats. Grams had four hits, four RBIs and four runs scored for the Eagles after Luck-Frederic opened the game with a three-run at bat in the top of the first.

Jaxon Tilton had a hit, two runs scored and three RBIs for Unity; David Whitlock had three hits and an RBI; Ayden Christensen had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored; Ashten Christensen had three hits and an RBI while Conner Eichelt had a hit, two RBIs and a run scored.

Grantsburg 12, Amery 7

The Pirates broke a 1-1 fourth-inning tie by scoring multiple runs in each of their final four at bats of a win on Friday.

Grantsburg still had to withstand a final at-bat rally from Amery, which posted five runs in the bottom of the seventh. However, the Pirates were able to capitalize on eight Amery errors in the game.

Brock Matheny had two hits for Grantsburg while Zach Rombach and Levi Anderson had two RBIs each.

“It was an okay outing, considering it was only the second day we have been on the field this season,” Grantsburg coach Pete Johnson said.

Ladysmith 5, Unity 4

Despite a combined 14 strikeouts from L.J. Manning and Jacob Grams, the Eagles took a loss on Friday.

Manning pitched four innings with nine strikeouts for Unity while Grams pitched two innings and had four strikeouts.

The Eagles held an early 1-0 lead and tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth but Ladysmith had a three-run at bat in the bottom of the fourth and the Eagles couldn’t get the game-tying run.

Isaiah Fugate, David Whitlock and Bennett Mitchell had an RBI each for Unity.
