SIREN – “The Camping Crew” organized a benefit for the Schultz family after Todd was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer, Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), in October 2022. As an organizer, Becky Strabel explained, “The camping crew are four families - Schultz, Strabel, Lindquist and Kosloski - that became friends through the years. We now go camping together several times a year. Whether it is a trip to the UP, the North Shore or just to Camp Beef the View, we have each other’s backs.”
Earlier in life, Todd worked servicing, selling and installing dairy equipment for 23 years. More recently he also served on the Siren Village Board for four years and is an active school volunteer. Todd had to stop working to attend multiple doctor appointments for his treatment.
Todd and his family have lived in the Siren area for 26 years. His wife Dawn has taught art at the Siren Schools for seven years. They have two daughters, Grace, 21, and Annie, 17.
Attendees of the event held on Friday, Feb. 3, commented that the event had “unbelievable turnout” and that “it was very well organized.” Todd commented that the outpouring of support has been amazing. Dawn stated that she appreciated being part of such a caring community, and that she was thankful for everyone who has helped her family, reflecting on it as being a special part of small-town life.
