Janice K. Thompson, 76, of Osceola, Wisconsin, passed away Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, at Westfield’s Hospital in New Richmond, Wisconsin.
Janice was born at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Paul to parents, Bennie and Frances (Lundgren) Nelson on Dec. 5, 1946. She grew up on the family farm in East Farmington. She was the oldest of five children. She attended Osceola High School and graduated in 1965. She worked many different jobs, like Linds, UFE, Kroy, Tenere and GDSI to name a few. She made many friendships throughout her time working outside the home.
When she retired from GDSI, she cared for her husband and her home. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and spending time with her family and friends. She loved to host friends and family at the house. She would always have special treats at the ready just in case someone stopped by unexpectedly. There was not a person or even a stray cat that would come to the house and leave hungry.
After her husband passed away, she was able donate more of her time to the church, helping out with many different church events and also with a little encouragement from Kathy, she also joined the quilting group. She enjoyed her time with that special group of women.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Thompson; parents, Bennie and Frances Nelson; brother, Greg (Ann) Nelson; and brothers-in-law, Noland Thompson, Dick Anderson, Tom Murphy and Harry Nelson.
She is survived by her children, Brian Thompson and Diana (Dan) Connelly; grandchildren, Patrick Connelly, Tosha (Brandon) Moran, Ben Thompson and Bradley Thompson; sisters, Beth (Sharon) Murphy, Gloria Nelson and Susan Nelson; brother-in-law, Allen (Judy) Thompson; special relatives, aunt Mary Thompson and cousin and friend Ruthie Yira; and many other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank these people that helped give special care to Janice the last few years when her health was starting to decline, Beth, Gloria and Susan (Sisters) and Karen Fossum (Parish Nurse) and Pastor Lori Peper. Also a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Westfield Hospital for the tremendous care she received in her final days, especially Dr. Dummer and nurses, Angel, Sophie and Amanda.
A memorial service to honor Janice’s life was held on Friday, Oct. 20, at West Immanuel Lutheran Church, 447 180th Street, Osceola, Wisconsin. Condolences can be expressed online at grandstrandfh.com.
