EUREKA – A new chapter has officially begun for a historic ballpark in the town of Eureka. At 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1, a special meeting was held at the Eureka Hall, where Manitou Ballpark was officially sold to the Manitou Community Club for the sum of $1. In attendance was town chairman Don Anderson, town clerk David Anderson, Jerry Gravelle of the Manitou Community Club, plus a representative from Polk County Abstract & Title Services, who was handling the transaction. Gravelle would like to clean up the ball park so that it can once again be a place where community baseball is played. His organization would also like to restore some of the buildings in the ballpark and even put a display featuring historical photos. The Inter-County Leader will continue to follow the progress of this landmark that so many people share special memories of.
