OSCEOLA – Even a balmy 10-degree morning couldn’t stop the hardy shoppers of Osceola on Saturday, Feb. 25. An added cocoa crawl, organized by the local businesses, was a great incentive to get out. Encouraged to dawn their coziest flannel or fleece shirts and overcoats, shoppers were greeted by free hot cocoa samples at each participating business with the bonus of a chance to win a winter survival basket filled with items from the local businesses.
Participating business owner Roxanne Danielson of Treasure Alley added, “We’ve been really happy with the turnout we have had for today, and lots of compliments on our hot chocolate. It was fun to get together with other local businesses to put this event on for the community and get people out and about.” There were 18 businesses that participated in the event.
New business owner to the Osceola downtown is Paulette Wentzlaff of Magnolias, a fiber art supply store that also gives classes. Magnolias took over the former Uptown Gifts retail space just a few days before the event. Even with short notice, Wentzlaff managed to put on a nice hot chocolate option and had crafters around a big kitchen table demonstrating rug hooking, punch needle crafting and wool applique.
Young and old alike seemed to be enjoying the afternoon of sunshine, shopping and hot cocoa.
