Girls Track Update: Grantsburg Girls Track Fifth At Invitational

SUPERIOR – Both the Grantsburg and Unity girls track and field teams earned event wins while battling for fifth in the team standings of the Dennis Simpson Invitational at University of Wisconsin-Superior on Friday. The Pirates, 58, edged the Eagles, 53, for fifth while Hayward, 126.5, topped the team standings and Webster, 31, was eighth.

Grantsburg got its win from Ayla Meyer in the 800 at 2 minutes, 36.26 seconds with teammate Tristin Kreuser Peterson, 2:51.9, in sixth. Meyer also joined Noelle Doornink, Selah Prusinski and Sidney Gronski for a runner-up finish in the 1,600-meter relay at 4:27.89.

Doornink, 1:04.51, was third in the 400 and Prusinski, 1:06.65, was fifth. Gronski was fourth in the triple jump, 29 feet, 6.5 inches, and in the 200 hurdles, 35.95. Ines Ruiz, 30.85, was sixth in the 200. Hailey Lundgren, 38.99, was seventh in the 200 hurdles and Jordan Java, 7.97, was seventh in the 55.

Grantsburg also scored points in relay events with Laynie Larson, Norah Bjelland, Aliya Henderson and Kreuser Peterson, 12:09.74, placing sixth in the 3,200 while Ashlin Olson, Liliana Collins, Anika Lee and Java, 2:06.61, finished eighth in the 800 relay.

Unity got a pair of top-three finishes in the pole vault. Sloan Horgan, 8 feet, 6 inches, won the event and Madison Reed, 8-0, tied for second. Emma Johnson added a runner-up finish in the shot put at 35 feet, 4.5 inches. The Eagles also had two top-five finishers in the 3,200 with Ann Boland, 13:03.79, in second and Hattie Larson, 15:46.78, in fifth.

Jillian Fisher, 36.65, was fifth in the 200 hurdles and Brooklyn Prince, 39.60, was eighth; Boland, 5:56.68, was sixth in the 1600 and Hattie Larson, 6:15.03, was eighth, as was Mahkenna Smisek, 31.09, in the 200.

Unity added points in the 800 relay with Isabella Hansch, Smisek, Reed and Khylie Young-Garayt, 2:05.58, placing fifth and Leah Raddatz, Gabrielle Pecore, Isabelle Olson and Miley Fulton, 5:02.93, placing seventh in the 1,600 relay.

Webster was led by a runner-up finish from Lauren Hetfeld, 8-0, in the pole vault; Brooke Wolf was third in the 200, 30.03, and fifth in the triple jump, 29-2.75. Hetfeld, 32-6, added a fifth-place finish in the shot put with teammate Marissa Dearbin, 29-9.5, in eighth; Hetfeld also was sixth in the long jump at 15-10.5, while Felicity Lamb, 7-0, was eighth in the pole vault.

The Tigers also had two relay teams score points in the 3,200. Kendra Jackson, Wolf, Elizabeth Treague and Maddie Behm, 11:47.44, were fourth and Lamb, Morgan Johnson, Eleonore Treague and Dahlia Dorn, 12:43.48, were seventh.
