GRANTSBURG – The Grantsburg football team hit No. 7 last Friday and goes to Unity this Friday seeking No. 8.

The Pirates seek an eighth consecutive win this Friday and a continuation of their undefeated season against the Eagles after crushing Ladysmith 63-12 last weekend. They limited the Lumberjacks to 133 yards of total offense while gaining nearly double that amount in both the run and passing game.

Brock Matheny went 13-for-18 for 187 yards and two touchdowns while Daxter Schultz had 120 yards on 10 carries and three touchdowns. Jake Peterson and Levi Anderson each had a touchdown pass, contributing to Grantsburg’s 239 total passing yards and Schultz accounted for more than half of the Pirates’ 225 rushing yards. Schultz and Sam Rockensock each had a 2-point conversion.

Reece Jensen had four catches for 109 yards and three touchdowns; Caden Matheny had four catches for 37 yards.

Henry Quintana led the defense with seven tackles; Anderson had an interception.

Unity

A second consecutive win would mean an upset victory over the undefeated Pirates this Friday.

The Eagles are coming off a 14-0 win over Webster and they needed only 238 yards of total offense to do it, thanks to a shutout effort from the defense.

Isaiah Fugate went 7-for-15 for 105 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Bryson McKenzie and Brian Bantz on touchdown passes. He also led the rushing attack with 56 yards on eight carries and Adrien Olson had a 2-point conversion.

Noah Cox led the defense with six tackles; Olson and Fugate had four tackles each. Dakota Hyden, Xavier Nadeau and Olson each had an interception while Fugate added a fumble recovery.

St. Croix Falls

St. Croix Falls can extend its win streak and catchup to the second-place team in the Heart O’ North Conference this Friday.

The Saints––currently third in the conference––host Barron, which is a game ahead of them in the standings as they seek a fourth consecutive victory. The Golden Bears are coming off a 57-13 win over Spooner, in which they had 344 total passing yards and had nearly 550 yards of total offense.

St. Croix Falls is coming off a 20-14 win over Cumberland as it held the Beavers to just 40 yards passing.

Webster

If the season-long pattern continues, it’s good news for the Tigers.

While Webster has been unable to win back-to-back games at any point this season, it also has avoided back-to-back losses. The 3-3 Tigers have alternated wins and losses; since they’re coming off a 14-0 loss to Unity, the pattern would point to a win this Friday at home against Turtle Lake.

The Tigers held the Eagles to 238 yards of total offense but will need to put at least a few points on the scoreboard to win this Friday.

Ronald Hatch provided 157 yards on 28 carries along with a catch for 38 yards but threw two interceptions. Jacob Fornengo was 4-for-10 for 78 yards. Isaiah Mangelsen had two catches for 29 yards.

Fornengo had 10 tackles; Ty Cook had eight tackles and Chase Miller had a fumble recovery.

Turtle Lake is coming off a 20-7 win over Clear Lake to extend its win streak to three games. The Lakers passed for 235 yards and intercepted two passes.
