Dwayne Proffit

Dwayne Proffit, lifelong resident of Cozy Corner, passed away at his winter home in Elberta, Alabama, on April 1, 2024. Dwayne was born to Lloyd and Esther Proffit on Sept. 9, 1938.

He married Carol Davis, his high school sweetheart, in April 1956. To this union five children were born, Doreen Proffit of Sierra Madre, California, Gerri Proffit of Danbury, Wisconsin, David Proffit of Frederic Wisconsin, Daniel Proffit of Danbury, Wisconsin, and Suzanne Fouts of Mohawk, Michigan. Dwayne was also a beloved grandfather and great-grandfather, having seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Carol passed away in 1996. In August 1998 at the Voyager Stables, Dwayne married Karen Olson, who at the time was an educator at the Minong School District, Superior School District and was a consultant to A Chance to Grow in Minneapolis. They were married for 25 years. Dwayne gained a stepson, Randal Olson of Watertown, South Dakota, and one grandchild.

Dwayne owned and operated L.E. Proffit and Sons in Cozy Corner, Wisconsin, and Proffit Lumber in Siren, Wisconsin, with his brother, Ron Proffit. Dwayne owned and operated D.A. Proffit Trucking, Contracting and Gravel. Many of the driveways in the area are a product of D.A. Proffit. Dwayne will be remembered for his hard work ethic and resourcefulness.

Honorary pallbearers are Mike and Arlis McIvor, Kenny and Deb Anderson, Richard and Ann Holmanowski, Bob and (late Geri) Kinblom, Doug Arendt, (late Larry) and Fran Clauson along with Jim and Donna Owens.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 4 at the Northland Community Center in Cozy Corner at noon. Please join his family for a short service and lunch as we celebrate his life.
