GENEVA, Ohio – Chase Doornink (Grantsburg) and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men’s track and field team claimed another national title last weekend.
The Eagles went to the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championship and defended their 2024 crown by finishing with 84 points while UW-Eau Claire (56) was second and UW-Oshkosh (39) was fifth.
Doornink earned All-American status by adding to the Eagles’ point total, finishing the 400 in 47.34 seconds to place eighth. He also helped the Eagles to a runner-up finish in the 1,600 relay; he teamed with Andrew Hackbart, Tyler Backes and Collin Conzemius to finish in 3:07.39 and just .87 seconds behind Bethel.
UW-La Crosse holds the NCAA record for 17 outdoor championships and this win follows its victory in the NCAA Division III Indoor title, giving the Eagles a season sweep for the 14th time in program history.
Doornink was one of 11 Eagles to garner individual All-American status in addition to the efforts in the relay events.
The Eagles also set an NCAA Division III record in the 400 relay with Ryder Smith, Sam Blaskowski, Evan Maurud and Lyndon Hemmerich-Hartman winning in 39.66.
