Donald Iver Chell, 94, a resident of Grantsburg, Wisconsin, passed away on March 4, 2024, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota.
Donald was born on July 17, 1929, in Frederic, Wisconsin, to parents Leonard and Mildred (Peterson) Chell.
Donald met the love of his life and longtime mate, Marlys Olson, in their sophomore year of high school. They were married on July 31, 1948, in Pine City, Minnesota. Together they raised their six children, Jeanne, Michael, Bruce, Ernest, Jeffrey and David.
In Donald’s younger years he was a dairy farmer and a milk can hauler. He also worked for law enforcement for many years, starting as an undersheriff, deputy sheriff and then becoming sheriff. He also worked as a dispatcher and in investigation.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Marlys; son, Ernest Chell; parents, Leonard and Mildred Chell; sister, Doris Pederson; and brother, Dale Chell.
He will be greatly missed by daughter, Jeanne (Duane) Lee; sons, Michael (Donna) Chell, Bruce (Tammy) Chell, Jeffrey (Julie) Chell and David (Ellen) Chell; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; along with other family, friends and neighbors.
The memorial service for Donald will be held on Monday, March 11, at 11 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Falun. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First Baptist Church of Falun.
