WEBSTER - “Holly Day” is Webster’s own premier festive event to celebrate the holiday season on Saturday, Dec. 7, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. at the Northwest Passage Gallery, brought to you by Burnett Area Arts (BAA). The activity is free and open to the public – especially families.
“We’ve put together a day of fun, shopping and creativity – looking to spark joy as we approach the holidays,” says Deb Norling, event organizer. “Not only do guests have the opportunity to find gifts and original artwork by BAA members as well as photography by Northwest Passage youth, but there will also be ‘make-and-take’ projects for adults and kids.”
For the make-and-take gift projects, kiddos can paint wooden ornaments and refrigerator magnets. They can also write a last-minute note to Santa Claus!! Adults and teens can create beaded bracelets, and there will be free face painting by BAA member Susan Vanderlinden.
Shopping opportunities abound. “There are lots of affordable artworks and Northwoods-themed gift items in the Gallery,” notes Norling. “When you purchase original artwork, pottery, or jewelry created by our artists, you give a gift that is unique – one of a kind – and you also support them and the local creative economy.” She added “You’ll have an opportunity to meet some of our artists who will be on hand.”
As a special holiday treat, guest folk musician Paul Imholte will perform traditional, original, and holiday music on a large variety of string instruments, like the hammered dulcimer. This type of dulcimer is played by striking light hammers against the strings, producing an enchanting sound. St. Cloud-based Imholte also sings and plays the fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and Irish bouzouki – which is like an eight-stringed large mandolin.
Complementary refreshments will be served. There are nominal fees for the creative gift projects. Burnett Area Arts is a non-profit organization in partnership with Northwest Passage. The Northwest Passage Gallery is located one mile south of Webster, just off State Hwy. 35.
