COLFAX – The Webster and Grantsburg boys track and field teams were left dueling for second place in the Colfax Invitational on Thursday.
With Fall Creek winning five events and taking three runner-up finishes to top the team standings with 169 points, the Tigers and Pirates were the only two other teams with triple-digit point totals. Webster, 118, and its five event wins claimed second with Grantsburg, 107, in third. Unity, 73, was fifth and Siren, 22, was eighth.
Dominick Ricci won two events for the Tigers – the 110 hurdles in 15.87 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 40.30. Ricci also was runner-up in the high jump at 6 feet, 2 inches. Sawyer Winkler won the 100 in 11.54; Talen Connor won the 800 in 2:09.17 and the 400-relay team of Brently Easton, Luke Ashworth, Brandon Emerson and Winkler won in 44.97.
Webster also had two runner-up relay finishes. Winkler, Emerson, Ricci and Easton were second in the 800 at 1:33.93; Connor, Brock McKinley, Ben Pardun and Emerson were second in the 1,600 at 3:41.9. Connor, McKinley, Pardun and Jamison Mogen added a third-place finish in the 3,200 relay at 9:27.06.
The Tigers got additional third-place finishes from Nathan Jackson, 20-2.5, in the long jump and Ashworth, 43.45, in the 300 hurdles.
Grantsburg got wins from Aaron Burkman, 13-0, in the pole vault, Jordan Gaffney, 21-8, in the long jump and the 800-relay team of Silas Prusinski, Chase Green, Ian Burkman and Gaffney, 1:33.5.
Connor Quimby, 2:09.23, was runner-up in the 800, as was Dominik Spohn, 12-6, in the pole vault. Two relay teams also had second-place finishes for the Pirates – Prusinski, Aaron Burkman, Ian Burkman and Gaffney, 45.19, in the 400 relay and Aden Erickson, Matt Michaels, Quimby and Joseph Quintana, 9:03.9, in the 3200 relay.
Aaron Burkman, 37-10, added a third-place finish in the triple jump; Dominick Spafford, 12:23.3, was third in the 3200 and Green, 56.31, was third in the 400.
Jackson Cramlet, 54.05, led Unity with a win in the 400 and a second-place finish in the 200 at 23.31. Wyatt Kocurek, 144-0, was second in the discus; Bryant Molamphy, 11-6, was third in the pole vault, as was Blake Patterson, 5:20.43, in the 1600.
Derek Thiex had two top-three finishes for Siren, placing second in the shot put at 47-10 and third in the discus at 141-5.
Amery Invitational
Grantsburg and St. Croix Falls managed top-10 finishes on May 2 with Osceola, 131, in the top spot.
The Pirates were third with 82 points; the Saints were 10th with 28.33 and Frederic-Luck tied for 14th with 12 points.
The Pirates had multiple runner-up finishes, including two in relay events. Aaron Burkman, Carson Lee, Silas Prusinski and Chase Green were second in the 1600 relay at 3:41.96; Aden Erickson, Josh Hartke, Connor Quimby and Joseph Quintana were second in the 3,200 at 8:53.29.
Burkman, 13-6, was runner-up in the pole vault and Jordan Gaffney, 21-1.75, was second in the long jump.
Burkman, 39-6.75, also was third in the triple jump and joined Prusinski, Ian Burkman and Gaffney for a third-place finish in the 400 relay at 45.62. Prusinski, Dominik Spohn, Ian Burkman and Gaffney added a third-place finish in the 800 relay at 1:36.28.
Kale Borchert led St. Croix Falls with a runner-up finish in the 110 hurdles at 16.55; Dylan Christie, 46-1.75, was third in the shot put.
Alex Chartrand earned a win for Frederic-Luck, finishing the 3,200 in 10:44.51.
Cumberland Invitational
St. Croix Falls had four runner-up finishes at Cumberland on Thursday.
The Saints finished sixth in the team standings with 60 points; Cumberland won the event with 121.75.
Dylan Christie was runner-up in the shot put, 44-3, and the discus, 125-4. Kale Borchert, 16.5, was second in the 110 hurdles while the 800-relay team of Cameron Steek, Borchert, Henry Germain and Aiden Meador was runner-up in 1:38.10.
