FREDERIC – Ben Ones could have used another point on Thursday but the Frederic boys basketball team had points to spare.

Ones, a senior, came within range of his 1,000th career point for the Vikings with a career-high 39 points in an 81-55 win over Birchwood to conclude the regular season. Ones entered the game needing 40 points to reach the four-digit plateau.

Ones began scoring early for Frederic, contributing four points in a 10-0 game-starting run and after Birchwood got on the board, he scored the Vikings’ next six points to give them an 18-5 lead. But that’s when they put the game far from the Bobcats’ reach.

Frederic went on a 20-2 run to go up by 31 points and cruise to the win.

Ones added a team-high 11 rebounds for the Vikings, who shot 50% (36-for-72) from the floor while Birchwood shot just 34% (20-for-58). Henry Slather had 12 points and six rebounds; Roman Lahti had 12 points and five assists; while Donovan Larson had nine points.

Barron 67, SCF 65

The Saints were one possession away from entering the postseason with a five-game win streak.

However, St. Croix Falls ended its regular season with a home loss on Saturday, though it got a rematch with Barron in the first round of the WIAA postseason.

Aiden Meador led the Saints with 18 points; Brady Belisle had 13 points and five rebounds; Drew Lessman had 11 points and 10 rebounds; while Nolan Imhoff had eight points and six rebounds.

Luck 64, Lake Holcombe 60

A 15-2 second-half run by the Cardinals put them in position to win and scoring the final four points of the game secured that win on Feb. 21.

Ty Roehm had 23 points and 20 rebounds for Luck, which trailed by double digits entering halftime. The Cardinals were down 50-40 near the midway point of the second half but 3-pointers from George Nielsen and Ty Paulsen started their big run.

Back-to-back baskets from Zak Walters gave Luck a 53-52 lead before Roehm and Paulsen combined for the last four points of the game, breaking a 60-60 tie in the final two minutes.

Paulsen had 14 points for the Cardinals; Walters had 13 points and six assists.
