Betty June Dunnum, 83, was born on Aug. 20, 1939, to Faye and Millicent (Matthes) Jacobson in Viroqua, Wisconsin. She passed away in Luck, Wisconsin, on March 11, 2023, gently in her sleep. On July 2, 1960, Betty married her high school sweetheart, Charles Dunnum. The couple lived in Richfield, Minnesota, where she worked for Control Data until retirement, and made a vast number of lifelong friends.
Chuck and Betty purchased the property on Lake Lamont where the old cabin sits in 1987 and stayed there on weekends while they built the house they lived in since fully retiring and moving permanently to Lake Lamont in 2002. Betty loved all the birds of the woods, but the loons, swans and hummingbirds were her favorites and cruising the lake watching the sunset was her favorite activity.
Betty was an avid reader and was a member of the same book club, which celebrated 30 years in 2020. Betty volunteered at the Luck Public Library and was a consistently friendly face there every Wednesday for 20 years. Betty loved flowers of every variety and her gardens were her pride and joy. Betty was a kind, generous, quick-witted and gracious lady who loved to cook and try new recipes.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Chuck Dunnum, currently a resident of Divine Rehab in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin; sons, Robert and Steven; granddaughter, Mikayla of Burnsville, Minnesota; Shannon and Andy, her husband, sons, Owen and Wells, and her mom, Darla, of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; and her sister, Jean Jensen of Viroqua.
A memorial service for Betty will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Bone Lake Lutheran Church, 1101 255th Ave., Luck, WI 54853, with visitation beginning at noon.
