OSHKOSH – Players from three area high schools will take the field in the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star Games this July.
Two players and a coach from St. Croix Falls and one from Unity were picked for the North Small all-star roster while two from Siren were included in the North 8-Player picks. Selected players must be seniors, first-team all-conference and all-region picks to be considered for all-state; final rosters are determined by vote.
The Saints are sending defensive back Brady Belisle, defensive lineman Brock Sawicki and coach Grant Belisle to the all-star events. Brady Belisle was the Saints’ quarterback in addition to playing defensive back, but his coach and father said Brady will get a start on where he’ll be playing at the next level.
“(Defensive back) is the position he’ll be playing at Augustana (University),” Grant Belisle said. “That’s where he would have played a lot more often if he weren’t injured during the season. It’s a really good fit.”
Sawicki also played on both sides of the ball but will primarily be on defense during the all-star game.
“He could have played either offense or defense but he was all-state as a defensive lineman,” Grant Belisle said. “When you’re all-state, they try to keep him at that position. He’s aggressive and has great instinct.”
And since it’s his son’s final game before moving on to college-level football, Grant Belisle accepted the offer to join the coaching staff.
“Since it’s my son’s last hurrah and you get to work with 42 other talented high school players, I agreed to be an assistant,” Grant Belisle said.
Brody Allen will represent Unity after playing quarterback and defensive back for the 2022 season. He had 19 rushing touchdowns, six passing touchdowns and made 49 tackles on defense.
Siren is sending Nick Webster and Nathan Thiex to the 8-player all-star game. Webster also split time between quarterback and defensive back, though he will primarily play defense this July and any time on offense may be at another position.
“(Webster) is not going to play quarterback but he likely will play some wide receiver,” Siren coach Ryan Karsten said. “They’ll use his talents the best they can and impact both sides of the ball.”
Thiex was a lineman on both offense and defense; he’s expected to play primarily on defense though he also could see time on offense.
“They already have a lineman at 320 (lbs.), another at 315 (lbs.) and Nathan, so the offensive line will be huge,” Karsten said. “But he may get in for a goal line package on defense.”
The all-star games will be played at University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s Titan Stadium, with the 8-player game on Friday, July 14 and the 11-player games the following day.
