Gentle Yoga: Four Saturdays, March 4 - April 1, 8:30-9:30 a.m., at the elementary school or online; instructor: Megan Hacker; fee: $30 (or $8/class in-person drop-in). These classes are a good fit for those who are new to yoga, looking to de-stress, or who want to take a flow class at a calmer pace. For online attendees, a Zoom link will be sent after registration. No class March 18.
Snowmobile Safety Course: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, March 6, 7 and 9, 5:30-8:30 p.m.; at the high school; instructor: Polk County Sheriff’s Department; fee: $10. If you were born on or after Jan. 1, 1985, you must complete a snowmobile safety certification course to operate a snowmobile on Wisconsin public snowmobile trails and areas. DNR conservation wardens recommend all snowmobile operators complete a safety course. Dress to be outdoors 15 minutes during first class. Preregistration required by March 2 at gowild.wi.gov.
Write Right Now! Tuesdays, March 7 - April 11, 1-3 p.m.; Frederic Senior/Community Center; facilitator: Phil Peterson Sr.; fee: $24. Whether you are creating short stories, a novel, a memoir, poetry or play, or a piece for your local newspaper, this is a place to come for hints to improve your project and for inspiration and encouragement from other listeners/readers/writers/poets.
Oh, My Achy Back: Tips for Managing Back Pain and Stiffness: Tuesday, March 7, 6 p.m.; at the high school; instructor: Cheryl Whitman; fee: $15. Learn some back anatomy and gentle stretches to help alleviate pain, opportunities for incorporating exercises into daily activities, and modified postures and positions. Pain-calming methods will also be addressed. Class includes an interactive portion; bring a yoga mat.
Intro to Computers & Social Media: Tuesday, March 21, 6-8 p.m.; at the high school; instructor: Mike Henderson; fee: $18. In this introductory course learn how to navigate and use Facebook, Snapchat and Twitter while learning more about phones, tablets and computers. Feel free to bring your own device or use a school desktop.
Woven Napkin Basket: Two Thursdays, March 23 and 30 (DATE CHANGE); 6:30-8:30 p.m.; Frederic High School; instructor: Tina Rosenau; fee: $25. Learn how to weave a braided-rim napkin basket, 8”x8”x4.5”. No previous experience required, all supplies provided.
Barn Quilt Workshop: Saturday, March 25, 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.; Frederic Elementary; instructors: Mary and Mike of M&J Barn Quilts; fee: 2’x2’ = $70 / 4’x4’ = $110. A barn quilt is a large piece of wood painted to look like a quilt block, often hung on the exterior of a barn or other building. Join a fun-filled day of painting your own unique barn quilt. All supplies provided. Register and choose a pattern by March 16. More details online. Class size limited.
Grow a Cut Flower Garden: Monday, March 27, 6 p.m.; at the high school; fee: $25. Learn together from an online course how to plan, plant and harvest a cut-flower garden. You will go home with enough seeds to plant a small cutting garden. We will follow up this class in the fall with a Cut Flower Arrangements class at Rose's Garden. Register by March 15.
Intro to Google Suite: Tuesday, March 28, 6-8 p.m.; at the high school; instructor: Mike Henderson; fee: $18. An introduction to the three most-used tools in the Google Office Suite. Learn how to use Gmail, Docs and Sheets plus go over some of the other functions on the Google browser. Computers are available at the school or bring your laptop to work on.
