GRANTSBURG- On Tuesday, Jan. 10, the Grantsburg High School band gathered members of the GHS pep band, past and present, to come together to practice the school song and then play during a game shortly after as part of the 2023 Alumni Pep Band. The idea came from band director Jesse Frozene, and this was the first year the group had gathered. After the Grantsburg Pirates and Turtle Lake Lakers boys varsity basketball teams had finished playing, the group assembled and played during the girls varsity basketball team warm-ups and then led those attending in a rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” prior to the girls varsity basketball game. The players arrived around 6 p.m. and only practiced for about 30 minutes prior to performing several pieces. By the opinion of several attending, the band sounded very good, playing some very familiar marching tunes, the school song and some more playful modern tunes.
