Shirley Ann Mariette of Grantsburg, Wisconsin, passed away on Sept. 30, 2025, in North Branch, Minnesota, at the age of 94.

Shirley Ann Mariette (born Shirley Ann Johnson) was born on Oct. 13, 1930, in Decorah, Iowa, and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Shirley was baptized Dec. 7, 1930; confirmed May 20, 1945. On Oct. 20, 1949, she married Douglas Mariette, continuing to live in Minneapolis for a number of years, later moving to a house in Crystal, Minnesota. They decided to move their young family out of the city to the Little Wood Lake farm, Falun, Wisconsin. Most of their time together was an active partnership raising beef cattle on Blomgren Rd. Two years ago, she moved to Lakeview Senior Living in Siren, Wisconsin.

Shirley graduated from North High School in Minneapolis in 1948. In her last year of high school, she also completed a Part-Time Work Program focusing on typing, comptometry, filing, and general office work. This helped prepare her for jobs that she loved including doing office work at Pillsbury, maintaining the books for the family’s beauty and barber shops, doing office work at Parker Hannifin, and maintaining the books for the family. Upon moving to Falun, Shirley was involved in all aspects of working on the farm with her family.

She was a beloved member of her community, including acting as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout troop leader and being very involved in her church. Shirley loved knitting, sewing, crocheting, quilting, making prayer shawls, and visiting with family and friends over a cup of coffee. Her warmth, strength, wisdom, and generous spirit touched everyone who knew her.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas James Mariette; parents, Carl Arthur Johnson and Anna O. Lokken; brother, Carl Eugene Johnson; a daughter Lynn born sleeping; and daughter, Jane Vivian (Roger) Corty.

She is survived by her brother, Harold Arthur Johnson; daughter, Carol Ann (Ralph) Bents; sons, James Douglas (Darla) Mariette and Thomas J. Mariette; son-in-law, Roger Corty; grandchildren, Alyssa Shifra (Matt), Emily Bents, Paul Corty, Mike Corty, Justin Miller, Tommy Mariette, and Sarah Mariette; great-grandchildren, James, Caleb, Michaela, Journey, Aurora, and Amara; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who love her dearly.

We would like to thank the staff of Lakeview Senior Living for caring for Shirley for the past two years. We would also like to extend gratitude for Tony and Kris Mariette, who hosted Shirley in their home and cared for her along with the St. Croix Hospice team during her final week. Shirley loved her church and her family above all else, and was able to spend her final days listening to sermons and hymns, surrounded by family as she passed peacefully.
