Sandra (Sandy) Avis Lee (Larson), age 86, a resident of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 12, 2025, just four days shy of her 87th birthday, at Hope Hospice House, Bonita Springs, Florida.
Sandra was born on April 16, 1938, in Frederic, Wisconsin, to Lester and Myrtle Larson (Ramsdell), and grew up in Superior, Wisconsin, graduating from Central High in 1956.
On June 1, 1957, she married the love of her life, Kenneth (Ken) R. Lee. They started their life together in Grantsburg, Wisconsin, and in 1957 welcomed a daughter, Debra (Debbie). In 1958 they welcomed another daughter, Jacquelyn (Jackie), and in 1969 they got their boy when John was born.
Sandra worked for Burnett County for over 35 years, serving first as deputy register of deeds, then moving on to become register of deeds before retiring. This was a career she loved.
She and Ken became snowbirds, moving to Casa Grande, Arizona, where they wintered for 16 years. The memories and friends they made during those winter months were life-long. They sold their Arizona winter home and decided to give Florida a try – where they remained for almost seven years until, sadly, dementia took over and Sandra succumbed to the terrible disease.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant brother, Richard.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Ken, of nearly 68 years; daughter Debbie (Jeff) Hunter, Siren, Wisconsin; daughter Jackie (Bob) Maurer, Siren; and son, John (Jennifer) Lee, also of Siren; along with grandchildren, Michael Maurer, Siren; Kendra (Cory) McKnight, Frederic; Tanner Lee, Superior and Kaitlyn Lee, New Richmond, Wisconsin.
Also missing her are her four great-grandchildren, Marissa and Isabella Maurer and Dayne and Finley McKnight.
Also surviving Sandra is her brother, Lloyd (Pat) Larson, Superior; along with nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held honoring Sandra at 10:00 a.m. on May 29 at the
Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery – N4063 Veterans Hwy., Spooner, Wisconsin.
