Ruby Delores Lindquist, age 91, a resident of Grantsburg, Wisconsin, passed away on Jan. 30, 2025 at Burnett Medical Center with her loved ones by her side.
Ruby was born on Feb. 6, 1933, to Thorvald and Myrtle Sorenson in Luck, Wisconsin. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, north of Luck. Ruby grew up in Luck, attended North Star Grade School and Luck High School and graduated in 1950. After high school, she attended Polk County Normal in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin. Upon graduation, she got a job teaching grades one through eight at Rocky Ridge High School, east of Lewis, Wisconsin. She taught there for two years.
On Aug. 1, 1954, she married Robert Lindquist of Grantsburg. After marriage, she and her husband joined Bethany Lutheran Church of Grantsburg and she was a faithful member there for the rest of her life. She served on the council for several terms, directed the choir for 39 years, taught Sunday School for several years, and was an officer of the W/ELCA.
From 1954-1958, Ruby taught first through fourth grades at Wood River School in Grantsburg. In the years following her teaching career, their three sons were born: Randy, Rick and Ron.
In 1967, Ruby got a job as secretary at Grantsburg High School and worked there for 31 years. After retirement, she kept busy with church activities and volunteering at the schools and the library in various ways. In addition to her family and church, she loved her dog, Akura, dolls, ice cream, chocolate, pretty dishes, music—singing with her CDs in the car, scrapbooking and making greeting cards.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bob.
Ruby is survived by her sons, Randy, Rick (Tami) and Ron (Julie); two sisters, Joyce Bille and Carol Sjoquist; two grandchildren, Brittany (Matt) and John (Larissa); five great-grandchildren, Marley, Liam, Luke, Isaac and Larissa; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Ruby will take place on Friday, Feb. 7, 2025 at 2 p.m. (visitation from 1- 2 p.m.) at Bethany Lutheran Church in Grantsburg, Wisconsin, with Pastor Len Halvorson officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Grantsburg.
