Joyce M. Mellgren-Kyle, age 86, a beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025.
She was born on Sept. 5, 1938, in Barron, Wisconsin, to Robert L. and Bertha M. (Wagenbach) Hughes. She attended Hillsdale School in 1952, when her family moved to California where she finished the eighth grade. She graduated from Leuzinger High School in 1956.
During her years in California she lived in Gardena and was employed for various electronic companies as an assembler. She had three kids while in California and eventually returned to the Wisconsin/Minnesota area. She worked for Shafer Electronics and Assemblers automated in the North Branch, Minnesota area. She retired in 1989 from TSI as an assembler. She then moved to Wisconsin and opened a restaurant for a while. For the last 24 years she resided in Webster, Wisconsin.
Joyce was very involved in volunteering and fundraising in her community of Webster. Webster School Backpack Program was her passion along with many other organizations such as the Lions Club, American Legion Auxiliary, the food bank, and one of her favorites, Christmas at the Forts, “Forts Folle Avoine” in Danbury, Wisconsin. She truly dedicated her life to helping others
She enjoyed her flowers and making crafts to sell at her garage sales or at the thrift stores in Danbury and Webster. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to Arizona and sightseeing in many states along the way.
Bowling and horse shoes with many of her friends brought a lot of joy. Fishing was another pastime she enjoyed.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Robert L. Kyle Sr; her children, Annette (Kerry) Olson, Tim (Peggy) Hogan and Robert Kyle Jr; her grandchildren, David (Jessica) Olson, Scott (Jennifer) Olson, Samantha Hogan (Bryan) Darko and Joshua Hogan; her great- grandchildren Lily, Anika, Warren, Odin and Oskar; her brothers, Robert Hughes of Berkeley, California and William Hughes of Torrance, California; other relatives and friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her son, Robert Charles Hogan; her parents, Robert L. and Bertha M. Hughes; and her brother, Roger Hughes.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 16, at St. John’s Catholic Church, 26455 Muskey Ave. S, Webster, WI 54893. Visitation was held from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Webster. Joyce will be laid to rest at Wayside Cemetery in Barron, Wisconsin, at a later date.
