John D. Holst, 78, of Cumberland, Wisconsin, passed away on Aug. 29, 2025, at Regions Hospital due to advanced ALS. John was born Aug. 28, 1947, in Cumberland, to Alfred and Deloris Holst.

John resided most of his life in the Township of McKinley, Wisconsin. He was a hardworking, dependable, thoughtful, fun-loving, and caring man. He was meticulous at any job he tackled. His work history included time at 3M, Rice Lake Glass & Door, commercial fishing in Alaska, and nearly 20 years as the McKinley Township Patrolman. Sometimes, putting in 15-hour days if severe weather demanded his attention.
John was equally passionate about his playtime. An avid hunter, fisherman, Chevy Nova and Bud Light guy. Many adventurous stories can be related by close friends that accompanied him on numerous trips.
He is survived and missed by his partner, Brenda Davidson; daughters, Heidi Holst and Misti (David Cotts) Holst; his son, Shane Holst; siblings, Cathy Sandstrom, Shari Holst, Dawn Fredrickson and Gregory (Connie) Holst; grandsons, Calvin and Emerson Fischer; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; wife, Gayle; and brother-in-law, Dave Fredrickson.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Friday, Sept. 12, at Skinner Funeral Home, Cumberland, WI, with Pastor Adelbert Frejas officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. -noon.
