John Couvert Ayers, age 89, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, at his residence in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, surrounded by family.
John was born in Los Angeles, California, on Aug. 19, 1935, to parents Louis and Mary (Buchanan) Ayers. Following graduation, John went into the Navy where he served for nine years. During this time, he was an aircraft engine mechanic, stationed in Japan and Hawaii. He was proud of his military time and enjoyed volunteering at the American Legion and being a member in St. Croix Falls. Shortly after getting out of the military, John met Sharon (Judkins) in Ventura, California, and the two were married Dec. 5, 1966.
In 1977, John and Sharon moved to Wisconsin, making St. Croix Falls their home. Together they enjoyed motor-homing, fishing, and his favorite: playing cards – (specifically Skip-Bo). John had a love for flying and enjoyed going for rides in biplanes.
John was a kind, brave, generous soul, always willing to help anyone he could. He loved his children and grandchildren more than anything. Every Friday his daughter Penny and he had a road trip together planned. John had a sense of humor; anytime he was asked how he was, his reply was, “I’ve never had a bad day in my life,” or “marvelous, simply marvelous.” He will be missed by all those who had the honor of knowing him.
John is survived by loving wife, Sharon Ayers; children, Paul Ayers, Melissa (Bill) Alden) Ayers and Penny (Harold) Johnson; grandsons, Jonathon, Jake and Dylan Ayers; brother, James “Jim”; sister-in-law, Maryann (Jim) Johnson; other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jere; and brother-in-law, Morrie Seamon.
A Celebration of Life for John will be held by family at a later date. Arrangements with Grandstrand Funeral Home of Osceola, Wisconsin. Condolences can be expressed online at grandstrandfh.com.
