Ellery Glenna, age 79, a resident of Grantsburg, Wisconsin, passed away at home on March 13, 2025.

Ellery was born on Sept. 4, 1945 to Alvin and Helen (Cox) Glenna.

Joining the U.S. Army in 1963, he was enlisted until 1966.

Ellery met Lois McCurdy while the two were in high school. They went to prom together, and then spent 60 years together, married. Together they welcomed their daughter, Jennifer, and sons, Troy and Terry.

Ellery was a master hunter, fisherman, and whiskey drinker. He had a passion for his guns, from collecting them to simply loading ammunition. His family and friends said that he was such a great aim, he could shoot a bumble bee off a dandelion, and spent countless hours shooting the clothespins off the clothesline in the yard.

He could always be found at the deer shack with Marlboro gold pack of cigarettes in his front pocket, but above all, he was a great big kid at heart and lived his life for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Helen Glenna; his daughter, Jennifer Glenna; and his son, Troy Glenna.

Ellery is survived by his loving wife, Lois; his son, Terry; his grandchildren, Rob Anthony (Kasey) Glenna, Danielle (Glenna) Funk, Courtney and Alicia Rindal-Glenna; he also had five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Grantsburg, at noon, with visitation at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at American Legion Post 185 in Grantsburg. Military honors will be present, and decided at a later date.
