LUCK – The West Denmark Heritage Council hosted an evening of Irish and Scottish music on Saturday, March 8, featuring the trio of Laura MacKenzie, Daithi Sproule, and Ross Sutter at West Denmark Lutheran Church. The performance, titled “Music of Ireland and Scotland,” drew a crowd and captivated the audience with the group’s vocal harmonies and instrumentals.

Mark Pedersen, head of the West Denmark Heritage Council, spoke to the crowd and announced several upcoming concerts hosted by the WDHC. He also asked attendees to help spread the word about the events, and offering posters for distribution at the back of the venue. The lineup includes a concert on Saturday, April 12, that had been previously scheduled for March 2020, but was postponed due to the pandemic. Pedersen also highlighted two June events, a student instructors’ concert on June 24, with tickets already selling, and a finale concert on June 26, set outdoors nearby featuring 16th- and 17th-century music. Looking to fall, Pedersen teased potential performances by regional musicians. Volunteers were also thanked for providing a meal, ticket sales and sound for the night’s performance.

The trio showcased an array of traditional instruments, including flutes, whistles, pipes, concertina, the guitar, and the bodhran, filling the night with the rich sounds of Celtic heritage. The church’s sanctuary was filled to its overflow area with attendees for the special event, fitting for the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day holiday.
