Abbie Ronelle Eckles Larsen, longtime resident of Frederic, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at the St. Croix Regional Medical Center on April 2, 2025.
Abbie was born on a small farm near Godahl, Minnesota, on April 28, 1930. She was the third of four daughters born to Rose and John Eckles. As a child, Abbie lived with her family at several Minnesota Civilian Conservation Corps camps, where her parents served as cooks. In the late 1930s, her family relocated to St. James, Minnesota.
In 1948, Abbie married Burton Frederickson. After having two children, Pamela Jean and Randal Burton, the family moved to Grantsburg, Wisconsin.
After marrying Bob Larsen in 1961 and having a son, Dwight Robert, the family settled in Frederic.
In Frederic, Abbie worked at the drug store, dry cleaners, and Hagbergs’ department store. She then spent more than 30 years as a certified nursing assistant at the Frederic Nursing Home. Then Abbie served for several years as the part time activities director at Traditions of Frederic, finally retiring at age 80. She was known as a kind, hard-working employee, a pleasant co-worker, and a compassionate caretaker.
Abbie began painting in the 1970s, and continued classes into her 90s. She also enjoyed woodworking, wood carving, and attending local music events with friends.
Abbie loved people and greeted everyone with a warm grin. She found joy in simple pleasures, adapted quickly during hard times, and rarely complained.
Abbie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Larsen; sisters, Inga Iliff and Frances Weseman; son, Randy Frederickson; and grandchildren, Mike Krill and Shelly Krill. She is survived by sister, Judy Neff; daughter, Pam Krill; son, Dwight Larsen (Mary Beth Lamb); granddaughters, Rachel Larsen and Annika Larsen; step-grandchildren, Lucas Kempf, Nathan Kempf, and Emma Kempf; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Abbie’s Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 19 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Frederic, Wisconsin. Visitation starts at 10 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. Memorial Service and lunch. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Frederic, where Abbie was a member for more than 60 years.
