Carlotta Ann (Tichy) Romsos, 86, passed away peacefully on Oct. 5, 2025, at home on Long Lake with her family at her side. She was born on Oct. 3, 1939, in Black River Falls Wisconsin, daughter of Steve and Margaret (Newton) Tichy. Carlotta was raised on a farm, attended a one-room country grade school, Loyal High School and University of Wisconsin Stout in Menomonie, where she earned a BS degree in home economics education. She married Eugene Romsos on June 23, 1962. They celebrated 63 years of wonderful marriage last June.

After graduating from Stout in 1961 Carlotta became the home economics teacher in Barron, Wisconsin, and taught three years while Gene completed his college education at River Falls. She also taught home ec in the Sun Prairie School System. Carlotta often said she should have gotten a degree in packing and unpacking moving boxes as she moved many times for Gene’s work.

During her various careers she worked in County Extension (4-H clubs), was an interior designer, owned a marketing company that supplied in-store product demonstrators, owned a party planning/catering business, and managed the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers booth at the Wisconsin State Fair for 20 years. She earned and retained the title of “Cranberry Lady” for her exceptional knowledge and enthusiasm about cranberries.

In 1995 Gene and Carlotta purchased 65 acres of land “up north” on Long Lake where they would eventually build their dream home in 2002. Their home on the lake became the gathering spot for many family reunions and celebrations. Together they enjoyed gardening, landscaping, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and water recreation activities along with campfires and picnics. They enjoyed many snowmobile trips including two “out west” near Jackson in northwest Wyoming with sons, relatives and friends.

Carlotta is survived by her husband, Gene; sons, Jeff (Jaime) of Hayward, Wisconsin, Dale (Carrie), of Shell Lake, Wisconsin, and Kurt (Linda), of Pewaukee, Wisconsin; one sister, Elvina Thompson, of Rochester Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Carol Romsos, of Barron, Karen Mangelsen, of Shell Lake, and Marie (Wayne) Romsos, of Barronett, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, Sydney, Blake, Zachary, Taylor, Skylar, Morgan and Riley; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Steve and Margaret Tichy; brother, Robert; brothers-in-law, Richard Thompson, Calvyn Romsos and Hank Mangelsen; and Gene’s parents, Erling and Marie Romsos.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, at Shell Lake United Methodist Church, with Pastor Chris Van Beek officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 10, at Skinner Funeral Home in Shell Lake and one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be in the Shell Lake Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hunt Hill Nature Center and The International Crane Foundation would be appreciated.
